Strategies for Pebble’s Happy Zoo:
1. School visits and author read along:
Children love to have
visitors in their classrooms; they will give their undivided attention if that
means getting away from the normal routine! Especially for the younger grades (K-3rd)
story time is a treat.
2. Book Fairs: I remember one of my favorite times
of the school year was when we had our book fair. All students would get a
catalog with all the books that would be featured, so that you could plan ahead
on what books you wanted to get. The actual event was so much fun! We would get
to leave class and go pick out books and fun accessories. This would be a great
time to feature the book and merchandise with it.
3. Merchandise: Kids love when they can associate
with books in different ways; so if we could make merchandise to go with the
book, if would increase market value; merchandise could include: stuffed
animals, backpacks, folders, notebooks, bookmarks, and more.
4. Interactive website: We are in the modern age now and the
children are very technology efficient; if we paired our book with an
interactive website with fun games and quizzes that promoted equality would
bring the book even further. There could be a page where we could have weekly
lessons teaching children about all sorts of equality issues, this could even
lead to a series of children’s books on different topics of equality.
